Several weeks ago on my blog, I told you about a presentation I'll be doing next week in the branch of a local bank in town.
And, several of you won the mailing and my commentary on the promotion in a contest I had on the blog.
You'll get that in the next couple of weeks after the event is completed and I can give you the full results.
As of right now, we are oversold on both days!
The best part about these events is they didn't cost me a penny.
That's the kind of marketing I love!
The bank sent out the invitations, included an endorsement letter from the bank manager, and handled the RSVPs.
Why would the bank manager do such a thing?
Because this is an extremely valuable benefit to their clients and the invitations made that very clear.
Now, I've got to tell you, these invitations were not like any invitations I've ever sent out before.
I did a series of events with my local State Farm agents last year and we used the typical fancy color invitation with pretty pictures of families.
You've seen them plenty of times, I'm sure.
We ended up having to cancel half the series for lack of turn-out!
Since then I've become a student of direct marketing and I kick myself for spending so much money on pretty, but unsuccessful marketing in the past.
Thanks to teachers like Dave Dee and Dan Kennedy, I've seen the light. And, it may not be pretty, but it works!
So, next time you are getting ready to promote your event, think ugly, think bold and think emotional. Throw pretty out the window! It costs too much and it doesn't work.
