It Better Be Fun ...
One of my favorite ways to relieve stress is to hit the go-kart track.
I just absolutely love it. I'm racing around the track and all I can think about is staying tight against the inside track and out-maneuvering the other drivers without getting kicked off the course for excessive bumping.
My kids love it too. They think it's hysterical when I'm screaming my head off and pumping my fist as I pass the other drivers.
Am I doing that because I really care whether I win? Heck no! I couldn't care less. I'm doing it because I'm having pure, unadulterated fun!
When's the last time you really had fun? Can you even remember?
What I realized is that the more I could have fun in my business, the more I would have all the success I could ask for.
I write my client newsletter because I enjoy it. I give presentations because it's fun. And, when it stops being fun, I teach someone else to do it and replace me.
I spent years trying to figure out my purpose in life. What am I supposed to be doing, I lamented. Each and everytime I went to one of Scott Farnsworth's Sunbridge meetings (www.SunBridgeNetwork.com) and we had to do exercise related to our purpose, I felt stuck.
Now I finally realize what it was I was missing. F-U-N!
Listen, there's lots of things I do well. And, many of them provide a lot of value to the world. (the first two prongs of determining your unique ability, according to Dan Sullivan, the Strategic Coach).
But, there are really only a few of those things that I have tons of fun doing. And, that's got to be the deciding factor in my life.
Imagine if you spent most of your time doing things that you were not only good at, but also provided extreme value to the world, AND you had lots and lots of fun doing? That's what life is all about, right?
So, the next time you aren't certain about where to go with your practice or your life for that matter and you are torn between two otherwise equal choices, make your decision based on what's fun.
Dedicated to Helping You Love Your Practice,
~ Alexis
