I'm writing to you from Big Bear where I'm skiing with my kids.
I just got a new car and I've got some very valuable lessons to share with you from my car shopping experience.
I was deciding between the Lexus hybrid SUV and the BMW x5; both VERY nice cars.
After driving them both, I slightly preferred the drive of the Lexus, but I was seriously considering buying the BMW because of my experience at each dealership.
At the Lexus dealership, where I went for a test drive twice, the sales people never smiled and didn't seem to care about me at all.
In fact, they seemed as if they'd rather not be there. And then, when it was time for us to talk price, the salesman goes back into the manager's office and sits there for a while.
Come on - just give me the price already. It's not like you tried to create a relationship with me, so all we're talking about is price, right?
At the BMW dealership, everyone smiled from the minute I walked in the door. And, I was dealing directly with the sales manager, so never had to wait for the sales guy to go back and forth negotiating price.
The experience was so good, I was going to buy a car I liked less just because I liked the people better.
Turns out, I got the Lexus after all because the BMW lease program this month sucks, BUT the Lexus dealership lost a $50,000 deal.
I ended up leasing from SouthBankLeasing.com where there is no haggling on the price, you just get the best price, and they'll bring the paperwork to my house and deliver the car.
