I'm on a plane heading to the east coast to meet with two of my business mentors, Dave Dee and Craig Garber.
I spend tens of thousands of dollars and have to travel across the country for a piece of their time.
Why do I do it?
Because I am absolutely, totally, 100% committed to the success of my business.
I just got finished watching the movie Pursuit of Happyness and it struck me that very few people actually do what it takes to make it happen, usually because they are sleep-walking through life and not aware of the little extras that make all the difference between success and staying where you are.
You see, success happens at the margins.
The difference between the most successful is that the most successful people take small, very small actions, that have huge effect.
I'm sure you've heard the saying that little hinges swing big doors. Well, it's true.
Let's look at some very small things Chris Gardner did to leverage his time into huge succcess in the movie.
Gardner was a single dad without a place to live, raising his son, and interning at Dean Witter with the hopes of being the 1 of 20 to get the job offer.
Gardner knew that his job was a numbers game. The more calls he made, the more people he'd get on the phone, the more people he'd get into the office and sell. But, Gardner didn't have the same 9, 10, or even 12 hours/day that the other brokers had. He had a son to pick up at daycare and then had to make it to the homeless shelter before it closed.
Did he give up and say it wasn't possible?
Obviously not. Here's what he did.
He stayed on that phone the entire time he was at the office, not even hanging it up between calls because he figured that hanging up between calls was an unnecessary waste of time he didn't have. He didn't drink water so he wouldn't have to get up and go to the bathroom. And then, he did the smartest thing of all. He thought outside the box and instead of going through his call sheet from bottom to top as he'd been told, he jumped right to the top of the sheet.
Chris Gardner couldn't work longer, but he could work smarter. And, so he did.
You can be working smarter too.
I'm writing my Law Business Secrets Practice Management and Marketing Mastermind Letter this weekend. In it, I'll share with you the strategies I use to work smarter so that I now only have to go into my office at most 2 days/week.
You can get your hands on that information without spending any of your hard earned money for two months. Go to www.lawbizsecrets.com/mastermind
