I'm part of a women's business group called Ladies Who Launch (www.ladieswholaunch.com) and an email came across the listserve from a mom who owns a business selling $100+ plus diaper bags to other wealthy moms.
The email basically said: "my live-in nanny just moved out of the country and I need two or three people to replace her. I'm a busy mom running a business and I need help!"
This mom is too busy to think.
And, guess what?
There are millions of other women (and men) just like her who need and appreciate a trusted advisor who can give her the peace of mind of knowing she's made all the right decisions for the protection of her family.
Think about it, if she'll pay $100 for a diaper bag, what will she pay for a plan to protect her kids from pain and suffering?
She doesn't have time to spend on a process that takes hours and hours. She's on the go and wants great advice as efficiently as possible.
And, she's not afraid of technology at all. In fact, email is one of her main modes of communication.
This is a woman who is willing to pay more to get more service from her lawyer. Our average fee these days is $5,000 and includes an ongoing membership program fee of between $49/mo and $249/mo.
Yes, that's per month.
It's much different from what you get when you are serving the traditional estate planning client ... a person in his or her 60s who has plenty of time on their hands to attend seminars just for the chicken dinners, talk to their lawyer for hours on end, and shop around. And, they see you as a document preparer, not a trusted advisor.
That practice model makes you too busy to think because you're constantly chasing your tail to keep up with the constant merry go round of marketing for a high volume of new clients who will pay you very little to prepare form documents, which just means more work for you. It's a vicious cycle that will sap your energy a little more every year.
The business model of the future means you work less while at the same time providing your clients
with far more value than you ever thought possible.
It's energizing!
It makes the most of technology.
It's paperless.
It's systems driven.
It's relationship focused.
Clients are willing to pay more for it.
And, they do.
If you want to change the focus of your practice to serve the mass affluent who expect and are willing to pay for more service, more attention, more relationship and want efficiency and excellence that makes the most of technology, I invite you to become a Personal Family Lawyer, if your area is not already taken.
